June 25th, 2009 marked the passing of one of music´s legends, the end of nearly fifty years with Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson was bigger than life. He sang, he danced, he moved the music world to levels previously unseen with his innovative, cutting edge, and well choreographed videos on MTV. He spent most of his life entertaining the world and the world loved him for it!
Michael Jackson had been readying for his final concert tour "This is It" when this tragedy occurred. He had been working hard to get into show shape for his coming fifty stop world tour. According to people close to Michael Jackson he wanted to do this final tour to show his three children what he was like while performing. And if you, like me, saw the video footage of some of his rehearsals he was looking and moving in typical Michael Jackson fab-form!
Michael had just moved back to Los Angeles to settle into a routine before embarking on that ambitious journey around the world. He had rented a huge mansion, hired a healthy cooking chef, and added a cardiologist to his household staff. We can see why Michael would want/require the other things, but what is not yet clear is why Michael felt he needed the cardiologist at all. Did he have some hidden condition that would require such a specialty?
When the EMS crews came to pick up Michael Jackson they had no idea it was him they were rushing to. The man on the telephone did not once identify the person in arrest as the pop star. Why not? In fact, he was eerily calm. In fact, if the story the doctor [Dr. Conrad Murray] gave matches that of his autopsy then the physician [Murray] worked on Michael for an hour and a half before he decided he need help! I don´t know about you, but that seems like an inordinately long time to me. Could the lengthy wait have been to ensure that the propofol and other drugs he had given him earlier was out of his system? Did he honestly believe this death would be ruled as one from "natural causes"?
Michael Jackson´s personal chef told authorities that she did not know anything was amiss until the doctor came downstairs asking to see the children. He appeared to be upset or agitated. She also said that this [June 25, 2009] morning things had not unfurled as they normally did. Michael usually came downstairs around ten am to eat breakfast with the children. Not today. Earlier, she also saw the doctor take oxygen bottles upstairs, which she said was not particularly unusual as Michael oftentimes did oxygen treatments.
When the EMS arrived to whisk Michael away to the emergency room the police were unaware that this may potentially be a crime scene. The property was not secured. Police were however appointed to stand at the gates to keep fans away from the premises. Upon arrival at the hospital it was clear that Michael Jackson was dead. What was not abundantly clear was how he had died. The news delayed forwarding this information to the press until the entire Jackson family had been notified. Many family members came to the hospital to see Michael for themselves. Others actually found this horrible news out from friends who had seen it on the news, but were not yet aware that he was dead.
Early on the death of Michael Jackson was thought to be a cardiac arrest. As dribs and drabs of other information circulated it became possible that this was brought on by a powerful drug cocktail given to Michael by Dr. Murray. Conspiracy theorists were on a roll, but where would this lead? Given that Michael Jackson was a huge star and that some members of his family were not buying the "cardiac arrest" route proposed by Doctor Murray an autopsy was ordered to determine what was the cause of death.
There was much speculation as the world awaited the results from the autopsy report, especially those describing what chemicals were found in his system. Friends of Michael´s spoke out on Larry King (CNN) about how they always felt there was a possibility that Michael would become victim to his drugs, especially after the horrible fire in his hair while doing the Pepsi commercial. For months afterward Michael lay in excruciating pain with third and forth degree burns on his scalp and face, the drugs his only relief. It´s little wonder that he became dependant on them and that people close to him helped provide them when he was unable to secure his own prescriptions. I would call them all enablers and partly negligent in this fiasco. However, I am not the one charged with determining exactly how Michael Jackson died.
Michael Jackson´s family ordered a second autopsy and the rumor mill was on overdrive. The LA Police finally began a deeper investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of this pop star. The house was finally searched and many different drugs were found under a variety of names. All in the bathroom used by Michael. Was he using them all?
The investigation began to ask pharmacists around the state what name prescriptions were filled under for Michael Jackson and who had prescribed them. Then the investigation moved on to the home and offices of Doctor Conrad Murray who was the last one to see Michael Jackson alive. Would he admit his hand in this horrible scenario? No, in fact he hid and eventually came forward to say he was innocent and wanted to keep his patients. If I was the only smelling a rat there then this is sad!
After the spectacular memorial service was over it was time for the Jackson family to get to the bottom of this untimely death. LaToya, Michaels older sister, was the most outspoken in an interview with Barbara Walters where said she believed that Michael had been murdered because he was worth more dead than alive. This sent chills through his fans across the globe. But could this be true? In the last few weeks LaToya has said that she even knows who "they" [the ones who killed Michael] are and she fears them too. She believes they will try to kill her too and for the same reason.
It was found out that the cardiologist [Dr. Conrad Murray] attending Michael in his final hours had asked for a million dollar per month to perform his services for Michael. Whatever those services might be. In the end he got one hundred thousand dollars per month and has been on the payroll only as recently as May of 2009. Why the change of heart with regard to his renumeration? Was there perhaps something larger that he had his eye on? If so, will it eventually come out?
The thought that someone close to Michael actually killed him is more than chilling. It is downright premeditated and that is considered a felony in most states punishable by life in prison and maybe even death. Dick Gordon, a close personal friend of Michael´s said that back in 2005 he [Michael] had told him "….don´t leave me. They are trying to kill me." At that time Mr. Gregory did not know who "they" were. Why would someone take such outrageous chances and what did they have to gain from it? Money is the only possibility.
Michael Jackson had purchased [in 1987] a very lucrative asset with huge royalties payable into perpetuity from Sony/ATV for rights to songs sung by the Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Little Richard. There was talk to make those songs into video games which could produce even more profit. He still owned Neverland Ranch, but was heavily mortgaged making that a non-producing asset. He had created MiJack, his own music catalogue, that was slated to produce another very lucrative money stream for Michael and his heirs. Combine those assets and you can define a possible motive to kill the king of pop. So was Michael Jackson murdered?
